# Username policy

Your username uniquely identifies your YourSitee account and forms part of your public Sitee link.

For example, the username `@example` creates the URL `https://yoursit.ee/example`.

## Username requirements

A username must:

* Contain between **2 and 32 characters**
* Use only letters from the Latin alphabet (`a-z`)
* Use only numbers (`0-9`) and underscores (`_`) as additional characters
* Not contain consecutive underscores
* Be available and not already used by another account
* Comply with the [Community Standards](https://yoursit.ee/standards)

Usernames are not case-sensitive. For example, `Example`, `example`, and `EXAMPLE` are treated as the same username.

  The `@` symbol may be used when referring to a username, but it is not part of the username itself.

## Reserved and unavailable usernames

Some usernames may be unavailable even when they are not currently connected to a public account.

YourSitee may reserve usernames for reasons including:

* Official YourSitee accounts and services
* Employees, team members, or platform operations
* Security and abuse prevention
* Well-known organizations, public figures, or brands
* Future product features
* Legal or trademark-related concerns

The availability checker does not guarantee that you have a permanent right to use a username.

## Names, brands, and trademarks

A username may contain a common word, personal name, or term also used by a company or public figure. However, it must not be used to impersonate, mislead, or falsely suggest an official connection.

YourSitee may rename, reclaim, or remove a username when necessary to:

* Address impersonation
* Resolve a valid trademark or identity claim
* Protect users from confusion or deception
* Enforce the Community Standards
* Protect the security or integrity of the Service

  **Having registered a username first does not automatically give you ownership of a name, identity, or trademark.**

## Prohibited usernames

Usernames must not:

* Impersonate another person, organization, brand, or YourSitee team member
* Falsely suggest that an account is official or verified
* Contain hateful, threatening, harassing, or discriminatory language
* Contain sexually explicit or clearly NSFW terms
* Promote illegal, harmful, fraudulent, or prohibited activity
* Mislead visitors about the purpose or identity of the account
* Infringe the rights of another person or organization

These restrictions also apply when prohibited words are intentionally misspelled, abbreviated, or separated with numbers or underscores.

## Display names

Your display name is separate from your username.

Display names:

* Can contain a wider range of characters and symbols
* Do not need to be unique
* Do not change your public YourSitee URL
* Must still comply with the Community Standards
* Must not be used for impersonation or deception

## Changing your username

Changing your username also changes your public YourSitee link.

Remember to update the URL anywhere you have shared it, including social profiles, websites, and email signatures.
